1. Contact

The asylum-seeker's lawyer contacts our partner, Physicians for Human Rights, for a medical legal evaluation.

2. Referral

Physicians for Human Rights refers cases to our Asylum Clinic. We are given our client's priority health needs and social circumstances.

3. Evaluation

We conduct our evaluations at two satellite locations:

  • MedStar Health at Spring Valley

  • The Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry

4. Affidavit drafting and submission

Our student volunteers work with our physician volunteers to draft and finalize our client's affidavits. The affidavit is then submitted to Physicians for Human Rights and our client's attorney.

5. Continuing care

Continuing care is vital to the mission of the asylum clinic. We refer our clients to community-based partners throughout the Washington, D.C. area. We follow and assist our clients longitudinally throughout their care.
