4/1/15: Artistic Representations of Torture

We had the privilege of being joined by Dr. Caroline Wellbery and Dr. Ranit Mishori for a fascinating lesson on the Artistic Representations of Torture. Our community of medical students, residents, and physicians gathered to discuss the power of art in expressing the historical and pure emotional context around violence and torture throughout the ages. We explored artistic recounts of torture, captivating photographs, and abstract paintings that explored responses to torture from both the victim and witnesses' perspective. This presentation emphasized the benefit that an understanding of the arts and humanities can have in gaining a true insight on the steadfast psychological and emotional impacts of violence and torture.
